Cuesta de chapiz

The apartments are located at Number 5, Calle del Boli, just after the small plaza called Peso de la Harina; a place that owes its name to the presence of a set of scales dating back to 1638 where ground flour was weighed before proceeding to Granada's markets.

On the corner there is also a small chapel dedicated to the Virgen de las Angustias (Virgin of Sorrows). This was the start of the 16th century pilgrammage Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) which finished in the Santo Sepulcro of the Abadia de Sacromonte and is still followed on Ash Wednesday every Easter. A route which passed the many cave-dwellings where the city's gitanos and their music Flamenco has it roots. The Flamenco bars of Sacromonte are world famous and every night draw Spanish and international visitors alike.

The statue of the man with the walking stick in the middle of the square is Chorrohumo (Black as smoke), the proclaimed king of the gitanos, a respected figure throughout the city at the beginning o the last century. And opposite in the Cuesta del Chapiz there is an aljibe (arabic well) one of many in the network which transported and stored rainwater gathered from the surrounding hills.

Alternatively, you may also consider parking in one of the many public car-parks in the city and then take catch a bus/taxi up to the Albayzín. The city centre is after all very near and the parking at Severo Ochoa offers competetive rates for weekends and weeks - Parking Severo Ochoa.
